Good morning to all who dare read this. I have been smithing for about 3
years now under the guidance and tutorage of the BGCM, a great orginization
to take schools and learn new processes, the people in this guild are more
then helpful. Alas though to my friends at BGCM I will miss them dearly, and
also this begins a new adventure of finding a guild, and or other smiths who
will be willing to share some forge space a few times a month until I get
fully set up.
My move to Maine is voluntary, but of all the people I met at work, home, and
recreation the guys/gals at the BGCM have remained totally helpful and
friendly. It is hard to imagine that nearly 3 years ago I had made my first
hook, and now I have just finished my first damascus knife. There are too
many people to list whom I need to thank, but I am sure those of you who
helped me know who you are, and I fear omitting one or two people and risking
offending them.
To any smiths who are in Maine, I understand the winters can be long and
cold, I figured this would be an asset to getting my lazy butt into the
forge. So I would say please if you are living in the topsham/auburn Maine
area and you like to have an eager person to help you in your shop, to watch
and help you do your smithing, I love to learn. I find myself to be helpful
and quiet, not forward and abrasive. If you are so inclined to have someone
to chew the fat with, please contact me off list at [email protected]
subject line should say something about blacksmiths.
I will be in Maine a few times from now till April, but April is when I start
my full time job. To those of you who I have come to know in the area, I have
approx. 2 more weeks in the area, and would love to spend time saying hi and
such to those whom I have spent much time with. If you would like to get
together for one last time, contact me off list and I will provide you with
my NEW phone number, since I no longer have a house, I am using a mobile
phone exclusively for the moment.
Many thanks to all,
Chris Caouette

ps. Bob Morris, Yes I finally did stop filing that knife, and the end resuld
is quite beautiful, although there are a couple flaws I couldnt get out, If
you would like to see the knife, then let me know Id be willing to stop by
one day.
