In answer to your first question. Yes you can damage an anvil working in
cold weather. You can snap off important parts as a matter of fact, like the
heel or horn.
There's lots of ways around this though. Magnetic engine heaters work well
and there's the "old" way of heating a large bar of steel and laying it on
the face. Repeat till the chill's taken off.
Can't help with # 2 though. <grin>
