Mik; I have made my little gas forge using fire brick for that very purpose
of having the size adjustable and it has worked very well. Most of the time
it is set up small as shown on this image from Ron Reils site
http://www.reil1.net/brforge.gif Since I did this illustration, I have
changed the burner to a side arm design and it works even better. Having a
layer of kaowool under the bottom brick helps retain the heat I'm sure.

I've been thinking of
building a forge from loose fire brick (read ...adjustable size) and
putting the burners to the bricks. Any suggestions or things I should think
about when doing this?
