My self when I make larger blades I make them somewhat more flexible.When 
using leaf spring.Heat to critical temp just a touch beyond non magnetic 
quench in an oil bath (light oil pre heated 130 to 140 degree's)To temper I 
use the oven preheated to 400 to 450  for sword  sizes and at times 475.I let 
soak at temp for 1 hr remove and let cool to air temp then back into the oven 
again for another hour remove let cool and it time for finish work
