What is a good website with heat treatment information? I know very
little about this also and need to learn.

Chad, OCS is some peoples short hand for "Old Chivy
Springs." Any springs will work OK but the older ones
are usually 5160, an excellent combnination of steels
for longer blades.
If you are forging I suggest coil springs. Not too
hard to shape and very forgiving in the heat treating
process. Just remember to temper well (3 cycles of 375
for 1/2 hour each seems to work well) because they
will be brittle otherwise.
A difficult project but worth the effort.
