[TheForge] Steel Sources for Weapons

Chad,

Most all the steel you'll find in a junk yard will be mild steel. There's
also the problem of unknown carbon content. That can lead to problems when
making stuff with it (unknown behavior forging, tempering, etc.).

If you're cool with that, then by all means, seek out junkyard steel. I've
used plenty myself. It works.

Just consider what your time is worth, too. :-)

Oh, and 10xx steels are plain carbon steels, in points. 1095 is 0.95%
carbon. 5160 is:

(amounts in percentages)
Carbon 0.56 - 0.64
Chromium 0.7 - 0.9
Manganese 0.75 - 1
Phosphorus 0.035 max
Silicon 0.15 - 0.35
Sulphur 0.04 max

Hope this helps,
Gabriel.
