Thanks for the advice. I am very slowly working on getting a forge and
anvil (my roommate moved out so I no longer can use his, not that he
uses it though). Not really anyone near here for me to learn from but
I'm pretty good at teaching myself stuff. So wish me luck and maybe I'll
be able to afford what I need soon ;)

P.S. Smithing is addictive!

Chad, if you happen across a farriers anvil, it will do all you need-
don't
reject them out of hand. The difference between a farriers anvil and a
regular blacksmiths anvil is that farriers anvils tend to be lighter,
for
easier transport, the tail is undercut more for more efficient usage in
making shoes, and they usually include a clip horn for making clips for
shoes, which is a great convenience for a farrier, but not necessary.
I've
made shoes on general smithing anvils, and most anything else on
farriers
anvils- I just happen to prefer farriers anvils because that's what I
used
and learned on.
Maybe if I ask for what I ACTUALLY want, I'll have better luck ;-)
What I need is two pics, one of a regular anvil, one of a farriers
anvil,
shown from the side, so I can more easily explain the difference to a
friend. Ultimately, I want to cast some bronze or brass anvil mountings
for
another project I'm working on, and I need a good drawing or sideview to
draw from.

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is probably not a
cat.
Never a horse that cain't be rode,
And never a rider who cain't be throwed....
