[TheForge] Leaf Spring questions

Hi all,
I got a question. I want to flatten a leaf spring. Jerry Allen says
that I should press it cold. I haven't got a press but I suppose I could
find someone with one and pay them to do it....but...anyone got any ideas on
how I can do it myself. The spring must maintain it's springyness. I
haven't got a forge big enough or a quench tub big enough. If I heat it in
a ground forge, flatten it, and then mist it cold, I still can't temper it
in my self cleaning oven cause it's too big.
Could I replace it with some other material? I am trying to combine some
hammer designs I saw on www.anvilfire.com. Basically I need a flat leaf
spring about 40 inches long. Ideas are welcome
