[TheForge] An oxygen generator?

  Jeff,

The oxygen generator is a box about 24" high, 16 " and 6' deep filled with
tubes, valves, electronics and other magic together with a couple of 4"
diameter tanks 48 inches high that puts out about 95% pure oxygen. It then
goes into a 60 gallon storage tank that stores the oxygen at 60 psi.

I use it for my cutting bending etc. and my wife uses it for her hot glass
(flame working & bead making). She teaches a lot of classes in bead making
and when 4 torches are going in her shop the tank and generator will not
keep up after 2 or 3 hours so we do keep a bottle of oxygen for backup until
the generator catches up. Having a bottle of oxy to replace a couple of
times a year reminds me of how much I appreciate the generator.

The generator cost me about $3,400 4 years ago. It has about paid for
itself in dollars and more than paid for itself in labor and running out of
oxy frustration. Now with the large bottle of oxygen running $27 here it is
looking better all the time. I keep the compressor and oxy generator in the
basement and pipe it 120' underground to my shop and another 100' to my
wife's studio.

You also need a compressor to feed it the 65 psi air it needs.

Why do I need two? My gosh, if one is good two is always better. Actually
one was stolen from my pickup box. The insurance company gave me a check for
a new one. After I ordered it but before it came, the torch was recovered. I
kept the new one and use the old one on the pickup when I cruise the scrap
yards before the scavengers get there. Besides, my shop one needed a repair
once (still under the 25 year warranty) and it was great to have the backup.

The All States torch cost me about $600 at the time I bought it. Pretty
spendy, but worth it.

Ok, just to stop the speculation, I did return the check to the insurance
company when the old torch was recovered (honest I did).

Clyde,

Whoa! An oxygen generator? Please explain that. It replaces the bottle of
O2 for use with a torch? I'm familiar with an oxygen generator for home use
by patients who need oxygen. Its about the size of a small window AC unit
and makes a similar noise as it concentrates Oxygen from the air. Is that
the same thing? What are the advantages other than no carrying of bottles?
Down side?

Thanks, Jeff Valentine

Also, what does an All States torch set up cost and why do you need Two?
