Bob,
I have an older Nikon coolpix9500 and have been pretty happy with it.
Yes,the lcd will drain the batteries faster.I keep 3 sets of
rechargables,1set in the camera,1 set charging, and 1 set in the camera bag.
Downloading pictures from the camera is a pain, and drains batteries so I
got a card reader that is usb2 compatible.
Like mine,this camera uses compact flash cards.I'd pick up at least 1 extra
64meg card,2 would afford a good buffer for those times when
you just go picture crazy and are away from your computer.These are now
common and can be had for cheap at Costco,Sams Club
or your local Quickee-mart.
I don't like the software that came with the Nikon and use acdsee for photo
management.
