Build a tail vise that spans one end of the bench. Let it
have holes for bench dogs and let it have a degree of swivel
such that you are able to clamp irregular forms.

Have another vise at the other end for clamping the ends
of boards for edge work and build an adjustable <crap I
forgot what they a re called> board for supporting them parallel
	to the floor.

I have a really nice bench design somewhere that I came up
with years ago. Simple, elegant, versatile. It made
extensive use of dogs and two vises. Kind of a cross between
a Shaker bench and that of Rouboux (sp??), a 16th or 17th c.
master woodworked that wrote a pretty famous book on the subject.
