Sometimes the best solution to a problem it to "just not go there."
You might be a lot happier with a different liner altogether.
Ceramic fiber blanket is immune to down shock. By completely soaking it in 
colloidal silica you can make a solid mass with an insulating capacity roughly 
the equivalent of insulating firebrick. This product is commonly known as 
rigidizer and available at potter's suppliers. Do not confuse it with sodium 
silicate. The inner lining thus formed will still shrink a few thousands, pulling 
away from the outer shell, but really what do you care? If you want higher 
temperature tolerance, use colloidal alumina, and never look back :o)
