Ries,
That is easy. The Vets took time out from what they do to serve their
country in the military and then got into politics. The ones with a law
degree just moved from one position of power to another that they figured
has more power without ever serving anything other than themselves.
Hope to meet you some day as we both live in Western Washington. We will
probably get along fine as long as we stick to blacksmithing.
Blacksmithing!! I have some band saw blade that is about 1 1/4" wide and
about .050" thick. It is brittle enough that it snaps off right at the vise
if you try to bend it and a file don't touch it. I heated it just enough to
turn it dark blue and then cut it to shape. Doing mostly stock removal I
made it look like I wanted and then took it to the forge to temper. Big time
warping. Not only did it warp down the length, it warped back to edge. Drew
the temper to a light straw in the oven letting it soak for an hour. Took it
back to the anvil and got it straight lengthways but it still has a dish
back to edge.
I think I will start over and try just drawing the temper to straw and
working from there. My objective is a fillet knife that is nice and
flexible.
