Very interesting figures. It will be fascinating to see how your experiments
work out. I would volunteer, but my time is spent tinkering with new equipment
rather than running existing tools. Still, If you run short of better
qualified people, I can always paint some in a new forge or furnace to see what
happens.
One fact of interest to you might be that the reflective ratings at
elevated temperatures, which you list for zirconia, are the same that I see quoted
for ordinary #200 mesh.
ITC #100 is claimed to be a "colloidal formula." However, any colloidal
particles in the formula would allow that claim to be made, including particles
in a binder.
I have deliberately mixed #100 with too much water, allowed the larger
particles to settle out, and painted the watery mix on forge insulation. This
seemed to result in higher IR reflection. The forge went from lemon yellow up to
yellow white with the same burner input. My personal conclusion was that
economical #200 mesh zirconia could be suspended in water to separate the colloidal
particles and used the same way. Just an alternative possibility.
