[TheForge] Plugged orifice?

To Andy and all
With any likely construction method, there will be a "shoulder" area at some
point in the gas jet or accelerator tube. This is because the average gas
source or "feed" is going to be about 1/4" and the orifice size is only a few
thousandths diameter.
LPG contains tarry waxes which will build up at the shoulder site. Also
construction methods usually leave some burrs ready to break off and small chips
that haven't been perfectly cleaned from the gas system's interior. These can
be added to small flakes from oxidizing metals forming a ring shaped waxy
plug, which will be blown into the orifice area, eventually. Raising pressure is
more likely to pound the plug more securely into place than to remove it.
Disassembly before cleaning is the only practical solution for this problem.
Fortunately, the gas system will eventually blow out all internal debris.
If it is kept charged, but at zero positive pressure, the gas will keep oxygen
in the ambient air from further oxidation of internal parts.
The goal is more complicated to describe than to pursue. Of course, the
problem could be something else, but this is my best guess :-)
