My brother just purchased a morris taper for his wood lathe that connects to
a 1/2 inch drill press chuck.  By replacing the tail and head stock on the
lathe with this type of arrangement you could in theory make a twisting
machine.....

If my brother allows me to mess with his lathe, I might try this...

He just made a rude comment over my shoulder about when I buy him a OneWay
Lathe to replace his original lathe...8^)

I made a real similar setup, turn mine w/ a 24" pipe wrench.
I thought about looking for a cheap lathe chuck for the next model, but the
different holders aren't that tough to make, the more I think about it the
next model will be motorized also.
