Dear Grant,

Brilliant, clear explanation, thank you! It is odd to think of these
elements going into and out of solution when the material is still in a
solid state, but, by gosh, that's what happens.

I only have one more question:

If this quenching transformation is arrested halfway, that must be the
origin of "Austen-Marten" steel, the kind used to make British cars...
