[TheForge] routine maintenance with WD40?

My brother worked for WD40 30 years ago in their manufacturing facility. He said then that some of the older women use to rub WD40 into their hands to remedy arthritis aches. They swore by it. It still sounds like unconventional treatment to me, but I'm no doctor to know whether this practice had long-term deleterious effects.

I've used WD40 for over 30 years on many ferrous metal items. The danger in using it to me is that it evaporates quickly, and while you might think something is protected, in reality it is not because the barrier has evaporated. It is not a substitute for an SAE oil that has viscosity. The oil will stick around for years. The WD40 is gone in less than a month where I live (100 miles from the Gulf of Mexico).
