Ed,

My oven dried borax still foams, but not as much as it does out of the box.

My son didn't like it for making damascus because of all the airborn
particles.  Of course he uses a lot of flux on his damascus, he covers the
billet on every heat.

I was forced to dry it out in the first place because my box of borax got
wet and was totally unusable.  I like the dried borax because it flows well
in my squirt bottle.

It sounds like what you ended up with has the same consistancy I got.  It's
been a while, but I saw a difference like night in day in use.  Doesn't your
stuff out of the box foam and flow poorly?  The oven baked stuff doesn't
foam and gets glassy and flows together, like EZ Weld.  It only takes about
a half hour to cook it dry.
