A few years back the guild I belong to got some anhydrous borax flux. It
had a different look to it. It was like coarse sea-salt in appearance.
And to be honest I did not see that much difference in it. But I also
tend to put flux on at a barely visible red, which seems to keep the
flux form foaming up and off.

Was this melted on a piece to be welded or on a cookie sheet? in either
case could the borax have been reacting with the item it was on( I am
assuming iron) and turned black? I was told that to dry out borax you
should back it on a glass pie pan or other type of glass ware
