[TheForge] A&O Success!

My son and I had the Alldays & Onions hammer running today! It stays
up, it comes down gracefully, it taps, it does single blows and,
without a shred of doubt, it hammers. A single heavy blow will
completely disintegrate a piece of 1/2" thick rubberized fabric
conveyor belt (the kind used in rock crushers) and make a little puff
of rubber smoke. It works! Hot damn!
Now, the drive power setup leaves something to be desired. It is not,
you might say, for production, not what the techies call
"enterprise-ready". In fact, it's not for the faint of heart. You
wouldn't believe me if I described it. Some pics will be along in a
week or so. Rube Goldberg's heirs and assigns are gonna sue me fer
sure. Frosty is probably going to hock his collection of hand-tatted
antimacassars and get on the Greyhound for Nova Scotia.
So, Ralph, I'm first across the finish line. :-) But you may well have
a usable hammer before I do because now I gotta slack off on this and
get some other things -- umm, actually, quite a few other things --
done. (The lower die loosened up pretty quick but I expected that
until it beds in real well on the copper shim.)
Pardon the rave. Can't he'p myself. Been waiting a year for this.
