I have always been told (which may mot make it right as I believe
everything I am told) 20 mule team has chemical water in it even if it
feels dry. I have used 20 mule team and anhydrous borax with the
following observations. The 20 mule bubbles up and falls off and the
anhydrous sticks on like it is glued until it melts. Both leave a white
ugly residue unless it is totally removed. This includes leaching out
from laps ect. The pattern weld people like it as before the knife is
finished it is totally ground and etched in acid.

Well, I don't know Bob Patrick other than by good reputation. But he's
not
right about the "caking inhibitor". I sent a note to Dial Corp (current
producers of 20 Mule Team Borax) asking about this. The reply stated
emphatically that not only does it NOT have any "caking inhibitor", it
never has. It is and has always been 100% borax.
I don't belong to the "corporate conspiracy" club, so I think I'll
believe
them rather than Bob Patrick.
