Lynn,
I agree with Larry that you should look at some pictures. Almost any
book on blacksmithing will show at least a few hinges, and some show
comprehensive treatments of them. Authors: Geerlings, Lindsay, Sonn,
Schiffer (?), Kaufman(n), come to mind, and no doubt there are many
others.
I agree the unwelded hinge, held firm by the first bolt, is a good one
for a beginner to try. However, you haven't made clear whether you want
this riding on a pintle, or what. You'll need to decide all that before
anyone can give you much help.

I have a book I picked up in a B&N titled "Wrought Iron in
Architecture, An Illustrated Survey" by Gerald K. Geerling first
published in 1929. It has some excellent examples of hinges in it as
well as other outstanding iron work. Many of the works pictured may
not
exist today considering the wars that have taken place in Europe since
the books publication. You may get some ideas from it.
