[TheForge] Thank God for theForge

Maybe your right. I have saved posts from the Forge dated at least as
far back as 96, so I have been around for all of those, and I was on
rec.crafts.metalworking before that and lived through the altavoz period
as well. I do believe that the overall tone and typical demeanor of
theForge participants is far more friendly and tolerant. Although there
have been a couple of brush fires a year, they seem to burn themselves
out and people then move on to the next topic, not just the next flame
war. I think I just deleted the gun control thread after the first
couple of days, the rest you list admitedly got tiresome pretty quick as
well, but were at least germaine to this list and its operation. About
the only time I got uncomfortable was when Roy and Ron (as I recall)
were going at each other. Both have left for their own reasons, which
is unfortunate, since both posted things at one time or another that I
valued enough to save. All in all , no one has shot anyone else on the
list in self defense or otherwise, ABANA rethunk itself and came up with
a compromise position on anvil shoots, there is relatively little
profanity on the list, and anybody who is bothered by off topic posts
need only start an on topic one to fix it.
