[TheForge] Stick welding (storage) question

I had(have) several 50# tins of various rods that I got from scrounging the
dumpster at a pipefitting shop years ago. Got a dormitory type large fridge
that was kaput for free to store it in. I know this heater isn't as hot as
a rod oven, but when I was looking for a dehumidifier for my gunsafe(about
$80 at the local shooter's supply), I realized it was simply a 25 watt
resistance heater. So I went to Walgreens and spent $6/each for a few
coffee cup warmers, put one in my welding rod refrig, one in my paint can
fridge (unheated shop) for a year before I stuck two in my gunsafe. That
was a few years ago and they are still cooking along just fine. I do unplug
the paint fridge in the summer, so's not to cook everything, ha!

A lot of porosity is due to moisture/contaminated rod.
You can try drying it out, or just buy new would be my recommendation.
IT really depends on the rod. Any of the low hydrogen rods really need to be
kept dry in a rod oven
