Ralph,
I picked up my heavy tire shrinker/ upsetter this week and a heavy =
bender of some sort. I thought you might get a kick out of hearing =
about it and maybe you have seen something like it. It came out of a =
wagon shop and I think it's for bending plate.
Can you help me figure out how it might work and how heavy the material =
can be? I still don't have a digital so I'll try to describe it.
The base is all cast and has a ring 3/4 around for the platen to rotate =
on and is 4-3/4" tall. The base has a vise jaw (1) with screw handle at =
A. Vise 1 has a base 1-7/8" thick with a L shaped face to the left and =
a triangle face to the bottom. The jaw face is 8" high at the center =
corner. At the right end of this vise is a wedge area for something =
that would be added. What ... who knows? - The wedge action would =
rquire the force to be agaist the bottom face of this cise.
The platen is also cast and rotates 1/4 R. It too has a vise jaw 2 with =
screw handle at B. Its top face is full height and the face to the =
right is triangular to match the bottom of vise 1. The vise block is =
mounted on the platen and is adjustable left to right with a 3/4" push =
screw at D. (Does not penetrate block.) At the top of vise2 and vise =
block, there is a swing over latch bolt to hold the tops together. The =
handle holder is 4-1/2" OD for a 2-1/2" handle.
The composite drawing with the platen rotated a little is below.
As you can see, the vise block moves away from vise 1 but still works =
with vise 2.
All of this is really heavy with stock 1-1/2" - 1-7/8" thick. I think =
the handle should be about 6' long. =20
Any ideas????
Walt
