Sal ammoniac (=3D ammonium chloride) is generally used as a low-temperature=
 flux, e.g., for soft soldering. It and zinc chloride are apparently =
important fluxes for tinsmithing =AF and that's about all I know about =
them. I got the impression from what I've read that sal ammoniac is not =
suitable for high-temperature fluxing, like for welding iron. I don't =
know that as a fact, though.

Call me stupid (you won't be the first)...why do you want to use sal =
ammoniac=20
in flux? What's the supposed advantage, how does it help, etc? =
Honestly=20
don't know...I'm happy with the borax/boric acid mix.

 Does anyone know of a cheap source of or common use for sal ammoniac
 (ammonium chloride)? I want to use some to blend up my own flux, but
 everything that I've found so far is more expensive than commercial =
welding
 flux.
=20
 The only common use that I've found so far is for stained glass workers. =
I'm
 sure it's probably some sort of cleaning powder, but I'm not sure.
=20
 any ideas?

 Thanks
