Spot annealing with a nail reversed in the drill? :  Guess that is kind of what I used to do while burning up drill bits until one finally went thru.  Lord knows that burning up a nail head would be cheaper.

That borders on child abuse:~)  not to mention expensive.  Teach him about
spot annealing w/ a nail head chucked up. He'll think that is a lot cooler
than your laughter.
