An anvil stand that I am currently using is sort of a modern stump.  Just
glue and nail or glue and screw or glue and bolt together pieces of pressure
treated 4x4, 4x6, 6x8, 8x8 or whatever you can get to make the size stump
you need.  Down here in Tallahassee a real stump left outside where I have
to work won't last long in contact with the ground.  I used exterior
construction adhesive in a caulk gun and the buildup went pretty fast and as
a bonus I had all the pressure treated wood from the side of the road.
