hello;
yes, i am replying to my own posting again.
i received a couple e-mails asking how i made
the rods in the povray models. so that i do
not have to answer each individually i figured
i just answer it here.
i will explain the bottom basket only since the
top basket used the same methods.
each rod is really made up of 300 spheres.
each sphere is 1/4" in diameter.
there are roughly 60 spheres to an inch.
the center of each sphere is 1/60th of an inch
from it's neighbouring spheres. the spheres
overlap one another which when rendered gives
the appearance of a curved smooth rod.
the location of each sphere was calculated
automatically from the two functions i used to
generate the curved/twisted 1/4" round rods.
i wrote a perl script to generate part of the
povray file i used. i hand tweaked the povray
from then on.
