The continuing saga of my new-to-me carbide grinder. I finally found a
source for plate mounted grinding wheels in aluminum oxide since I don't
want to specifically sharpen carbide tools, J&L industrial supply. I
ordered two wheels and when they arrived the 80 grit wheel was silicon
carbide instead of aluminum oxide. The price was good and its here now, so
my question: Is there a reason not to keep this 80 grit wheel for general
sharpening/grinding with the 46 grit aluminum oxide wheel on the other end?
Thanks for any advice/opinions. I already checked with a smithin buddy who
thinks like I do that a wheel is a wheel why wouldn't it work for general
grinding, especially since I'd have to postage it back for a replacement.
We both agreed that I'm probably not a skilled enough grinder to notice the
difference.
