If I were to try it... and I might this weekend, Id take the straight 
pieces and tack them at each end. Twist them as normal. Then take a ring 
and center it over the "waist" . Reheat the entire thing, chuck it in the 
vise horizontally, and open it up. You may need to tack the ring in place 
to hold it but if your careful and you have an apprentice you can probably 
hold it in place.

I just might give it a go....
