I forgot the title (and it is packed away somewheres, but a welding text
book will. Electric welding was first used in the later 1880's if I
remember correctly. Tho it might be the 1890's. And gas welding came about
in the early 1900's ( perhaps 1910?)
Forge welding was probably shortly after blacksmithing was started.
