Anecdotal case for applying this wisdom:

   Visit to metal supply house:
   ----------------------------

   Me:   I need a sheet of 3/16" pure aluminum

   Him:  We don't have that.  We have aluminum.

   Me:   Well, see, I'm an artist and... [long explanation in short
         sentences and easy words about repousse, raising soft
         material, hand hammering details and stuff.]

   Him:  Well, we have this stiff, hard, indestructible aluminum alloy
         for dumptruck bodies and ship's hulls.  Lots in stock.

   Me:   I just explained why that won't work for me.

   Him:  Well, availability has to be worth something, doesn't it?

Grind. Grind.  Illegitimi non carborundum.
