Don't know how close any of these are to Boston...but they reportedly used to 
offer classes at Sturbridge Village, and there was a place on Cape Cod -- 
Cape Cod School of Blacksmithing?  If you're willing to travel a bit, there's 
Haystack in Maine, and the New England School of Metalwork in....I thought 
Maine as well, but could be wrong.

As far as how long does it take to study blacksmithing, you should learn 
everything in only about a lifetime, maybe a little more.
