Steve, I have been using my Kinyon style hammer with bolt on dies for
years and have never had trouble with the dies coming loose. The other
good point about bolt on dies is that you can change them in just a

I used bronze on the ram ways of my 60 / 70 # hammer as suggested by
Kinyon. I am building a much bigger 300# hammer and plan to use no
buffer in the ram ways. Having had two 250# Moloch hammers and a
50# Little Giant that all ran metal to metal in the ram ways, I am sure that
it will work fine. A little heavy oil once-in-a-while will do the trick.
