I thought Screech was from rinsing out British Navy Rum barrels, not whiskey
barrels.

And in Newfoundland, the National Beverage is reputedly "screech", what
you get (I think) when you rinse out an "empty" whiskey barrel with
(not too much :-) hot water. I forget if you're supposed to add sugar
or lemons or something.

I don't look like that. Fresh whiskey barrels are hard to come by.
