Not only do you have to bring it down slowly, you have to do it in steps.=
For example:
Kiln at 1500 degrees - glass on steel at 1500 degrees
Turn back set point to about 1200 degrees
Let it drift down to 1200 and then let it hold there for a couple of hour=
s.
Then 1000 degrees ditto
Then 900 ditto
Then turn off the kiln and let it cool over night and most importantly...=
NEVER OPEN THE DOOR until it has completely cooled!!!!!
