The advantage is much less heat input than a torch. the tig torch, while
very hot, is very small and controllable. to get a big piece of say, 1"
round hot enough to braze something with a torch, you would have to really
heat up a large area, whereas in a few seconds the tig will get just the
area you want hot. Again, its most useful applications are really thick to
really thin joints, and various tubing joints where everything is thin. But
it is also much quicker than a gas torch, more controllable, and the
finished joint looks better as a result.
It also means if you have to attach something that is already powdercoated
or painted, as I will have to do next week, you can sand off the paint for
maybe an inch around the braze, braze it, and touch up the paint.
It is not for every application- just another tool in your box.
