"New" pennies are copper plated zinc, not sure what composition in the
zinc.  Know they've been around for over 10 years, not sure how long
before that, you can tell by dropping one on a hard surface, the
"real" penny rings, the zinc makes a sound like it's hollow or
something, no ring.  The government has been actively removing copper
pennies from circulation and replacing them with zinc, the copper in 1
penny is more valuable than 1�
