Actually, remembering back from last years "cold weather tips"   I had 
thought about making an insulated box  to fit over the top of the anvil, and 
sticking an electric  metal-magnet block heater to the anvil to keep it a  
little warmer. 

How did you guess that my dog was black?  (He is) but I never noticed the 
dog eating coal. He does seem to prefer drinking water from the dirty 
slack-tub over drinking fresh water from his bowl.
