Hey Bob, I got some like that from a Junk yard, maybe it was there because
it was rejected from the steel supplier, but I kind of liked it. I actually
put texture into some of my pieces, so the job had already been started ;-)

Subject: [TheForge] Textured steel

Hi guys,

I had an interesting thing happen with my last steel order. When I got home
but hadn't unloaded yet we got a call from the supplier saying that the last
batch of steel was defective from the mill and they would exchange it if I
got some of it. When I checked, I had some of it but it's kind of cool. The
rollers at the mill must have been missaligned and left kind of a wavy
texture on the steel. I tryed to get them to give me a credit on it because
I thought I could use it and didn't want to waste half of a day bringing it
in to exchange. He wouldn't give me a rebate but promissed favorable
treatment on my next order.

So now I have 500 ft of textured 3/8" rd. I made some small tri-pods out of
it yesterday, and after painting it black it has kind of a rustic look. The
stuff forged ok so I think that it was just a problem in the rollers. I
mostly use 3/8 for little stuff where the texture will be forged out anyway,
and on the larger stuff I kind of like the effect.

Now all I have to do is get them to give me a batch with a tree bark pattern
rolled into it.
