How about explaining why heat makes the
metal easier to work. For the demo part
he could hang a weight from the end of a
bar and show how heating allows the bar
to bend. Or several bars with the same
weight bent in different places to show
that it really is the placement of the
heat that works the magic.

I could also see a piece of iron set on
top of a bucket of ping pong balls. Add
energy to the bucket by vibrating it and
I'll bet the iron sinks. Much like hot
punching.
