Well, the copy of the text that Jan scanned for me (thank-you, Jan ;-) Says
that "the chains would probably been attached to forged hooks at the ends
of the strips( see detailed drawing), but I can't determine from either the
text or the drawing whether they're talking about independent hooks, or
something forged into the piece, as your drawing shows.

I like your solution, Bill- fairly simple and elegant, although likely a bit
of a pain to align right, but I'd really like to see the piece- anybody got
any errands they need run over in Sweden?

;-)

Jan got me the name of the museum- maybe I'll try to email them, and if that
doesn't work, write them a letter. Jan- you maybe into doing some
translation? Might not be soon enough to help you for LaCrosse, but it might
help me with the accuracy when I do mine.

Does it say that the piece is made of bog iron somewhere? Or is that just an
assumption someone made, because of the location? I'd really love an
analysis of the material- considering what I have on hand, I'll likely make
a prototype in hot-rolled mild, and consider maybe using pure iron, or Real
(tm) wrought later.....

Phlip, off thinking and mumbling......
