[TheForge] Square headed screws

As my toe projects proceed I ran into the problem so many of us run into,
namely those pesky square headed screws.
A search of all the local hardware stores of course turned up zippo so I put
on my improvisors hat and looked again. The solution was one of those head
slapper moments.
Looking through the boxes of specialty hardware I once again saw the decent
selection of square nuts and while lamenting the derth of square headed
screws the light went on.
So what I did was buy six each 5/16" sq. nuts for the (buffalo post drill)
and six each 3/8" sq. nuts. (for the Champion) Then I moseyed over to the
fasteners in bins section and picked up 6 each 5/16" x 2 1/2" and 3/8" x 3"
hanger bolts. For those who don't know, hanger bolts have a wood screw on
one end and machine screw threads on the other. See where I'm going with
this? <grin>
I cut the machine screw ends to length, welded on the square nuts, ground
them smooth, painted them to match the color scheme and voila square headed
screws.
The hardware cost me about $0.55 & $0.74 each respectively and about five
minutes labor each which is okay if you only need a few like I did. If I
needed very many I'd just order the darn things and be done with it but this
was an acceptible field expedient.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Wrought iron is.
