I've done this with brass and a fine toothed blade.  Works fine, so long as 
the metal isn't too thick (I was using 1/8").  Slow, though.  Actually prefer 
to use a hand held jigsaw.

<< hummm ...good idea ... makes me think of a problem i'm haveing .... when 
 cutting out copper roses ( etc) i have been using tin snips and this to 
 becomes very tedious especially if you have a lot to do ... has anyone out 
 there tried to use a scroll saw with a metal cutting blade ( if there is 
such 
 a thing as a metal cutting scroll saw blade) .. maybe sandwiching the metal 
 between two pieces if thin fiber board or plywood ... ????    thanks... >>
