Make a master of something...leaf, spoon, whatever -- heat a section of the 2 
1/2"...beat the master into it...poof, swage.  Mill/file/forge grooves of 
varying widths along the rest of it.

OK, so 1018 might not be the best material for it...but it'll do.  I'm using 
a hunk of wood to do some of the same.
