Yes. Our cylinders have two numbers. One is a modern sticker. However,
those cylinders that don't have the modern sticker, have another
number. The other number, we are told to take the 6 digit alpha numeric
number from the side (near the top) of the cylinder. Generally, the ones
I've seen have bunches of numbers, and I have to sort of guess which one is
the one I want<G>. No one has complained yet. When they initiated this, I
became a gas passer for our group, since I use a lot of gas<G>.
It would make sense for each to be serialed, in litigatious
America<G>. However, the stamps for proofing would be sufficient in my
mind for most normal folks.
Ahh, reading your message once more before hitting the send
button;;;; the serial numbers have nothing to do with the individuals who
buy or lease the cylinders. This way a cylinder may be sent around at
will. Like the old glass milk jars, you likely won't get the exact one
back when you send it in for refilling<G>.
