I still like:  Take a sample piece of stock.  Measure it.  Draw it out to 
desired finished shape.  Measure it.  Measure 2 minus Measure 1 = amount 
lengthened.  Apply to project.

Much easier than trying to fiddle formulas to apply exactitude to an 
inexact craft.
