[TheForge] Forge Question

HI All;

I suggest you look more closely at charcoal if you think Kingsford
is charcoal. Kingsford is all coal dust, compressed coal dust, while
that may be just the type of fuel that works in a forge, it doesn't
work for me. I am producing a food product, last year all my sources
for commercially available hard wood charcoal dried up. Coal dust
adds a flavor I don't want in my food.

I am experimenting with electric elements for radiant heat and
producing smoke from a side box for flavor. Coal dust adds a bitter
taste and a definite "coal" taste, a bit like tar. So...if you want
"wood coal", I have found only one source guaranteeing hardwood
charcoal.

Hasty Bake will sell you hardwood charcoal, it's ridiculously
expensive unless you are within driving distance of them in Mo. It's
still expensive if you can pick up large quantities yourself from
them, but cheaper than having it shipped.

If anyone else knows of a good source for hardwood charcoal, I'm
interested.

   Thanks

   Jeff ><>
